Our Church Services

Services and Events in our Churches over the next two weeks

On Sunday 16th March 2025 – the 2nd Sunday of Lent (Lent 2) – there will be services as follows:

At 9.30am at Hilton Churcha service of Morning Praise led by Julia Ardley, Authorised Lay Minister;

At 9.30am at Brookfield Church – a “Breakfast Church” service of informal worship with quizzes, discussion and simple refreshments, led by our Vicar, Revd Laura Wild [Editor’s note: there will NOT be Holy Communion at this service]; and

At 11.00am at Stainton Church – a service of Holy Communion at which our Pioneer Minister, Revd Vanessa Kirby, will preside.

The lessons set in the Lectionary for the Lent 2 are:

  • Genesis 15:1-12, 17-18
  • Psalm 27
  • Philippians 3:17-4:1
  • Luke 13:31-35

The Diocesan Reflection for Lent 2 is given by our Archbishop of York, the Most Revd and Rt Hon Stephen Cottrell. Archbishop Stephen reflects on the Gospel reading (Luke 13:31-35) set for Lent 2; you can find the Reflection at this link.

 

On Tuesday 18th March 2025 at 9.30am at Stainton Church there will be a half-hour Plurality Prayer Gathering.

On Wednesday 19th March 2025 at 10.00am at Brookfield Church there will be a service of Holy Communion

On Thursday 20th March 2025 at 12.30pm – 1.30pm in Brookfield Church Hall there will be the third afternoon session of our “Faith Pictures” Lent Course.

On Thursday 20th March 2025 at 7.00pm – 8.00pm in Stainton Church Parish Room there will be the third evening session of our “Faith Pictures” Lent Course.

On Sunday 23rd March 2025 – the 3rd Sunday of Lent (Lent 3) – there will be services as follows:

At 9.30am at Brookfield Church a service of Holy Communion at which our Vicar, Revd Laura Wild, will preside.

At 11.00am at Stainton Church a service of Holy Communion at which our Vicar will also preside; and

At 4.00pm at Hilton Church a service of Evensong led by our Pioneer Minister, Revd Vanessa Kirby, and at which our Vicar will preach.

The lessons set in the Lectionary for Lent 3 are:

  • Isaiah 55:1-9
  • Psalm 63:1-9
  • 1 Corinthians 10:1-13
  • Luke 13:1-9

On Tuesday 25th March 2025 at 9.30am at Stainton Church there will be a half-hour Plurality Prayer Gathering.

On Thursday 27th March 2025 at 2.30pm – 4.30pm in Brookfield Church Hall St Margart’s Church is holding “Our Golden Girls Afternoon Tea”. This an outreach event for women in the week of Mothering Sunday (*). You are invited to take two invitations (which are available in the Churches), one for yourself and one for a guest you would like to take to the event. For catering purposes please let Revd Vanessa Kirby know that you will be attending by Tuesday 19th March 2025.

(*) Editor’s note: Mothering Sunday is on 30th March 2025 when we shall have our "5th Sunday Special Holy Communion Service” at Stainton Church and when our guest speaker will be Phil McBride from the Diocesan Generous Giving Team.
