Our Church Services

Services and Events in our Churches over the next two weeks

On Sunday 1st March 2026 it is Lent 2 - our “Growing Good” theme is Perseverance and there will be services as follows:

At 9.30am at Hilton Church a service of Holy Communion at which the Revd Marie Edwards Chaplain of Hild-Bede College, Durham, will be our guest president.

At 9.30am at Brookfield Church a service of Holy Communion at which our Pioneer Minister, Revd Vanessa Kirby, will preside.

At 11.00am at Stainton Church an informal Café Church service with simple refreshments, quizzes, puzzles and conversations, led by our Vicar, Revd Laura Wild. [Editor’s note: There will NOT be Holy Communion at this service].

The scripture passages we will use at these services are:

  • Lectionary choice    John 3:1-17
  • Growing Good choice  Jeremiah 29:4-7

 

The Diocesan Reflection for Lent 2 will be given by our Archbishop of York, the Most Revd and Rt Hon Stephen Cottrell. Archbishop Stephen reflects on the Gospel passage set for that Sunday (John 3:1-17). You will be able to find the Reflection at this link from about the Thursday before that Sunday.

 

On Monday 2nd March 2026 at 11.15am for one hour at Brookfield Church Hall there will be an opportunity to “Continue the Conversation” about the Growing Good sermon theme preached at the services the day before, led by our Vicar, Revd Laura Wild.

On Tuesday 3rd March 2026 at 9.30am at Stainton Church there will be a half-hour Plurality Prayer Gathering.

On Wednesday 4th March 2026 at 10.00am at Brookfield Church there will be a service of Holy Communion at which our Vicar, Revd Laura Wild, will preside.

On Sunday 8th March 2026 – Lent 3 – it is also International Women’s Day - and we continue our series of Lenten sermons based on the Church Urban Fund (CUF) “Growing Good” material. Our “Growing Good” theme for this Sunday is Adaptability and there will be services as follows:

At 9.30am at Brookfield Church an informal “Breakfast Church” service with simple refreshments, quizzes, puzzles and conversations, led by our Vicar, Revd Laura Wild. [Editor’s note: There will NOT be Holy Communion at this service].

At 11.00am at Stainton Church a service of Holy Communion at which our Pioneer Minister, Revd Vanessa Kirby, will preside.

At 4.00pm at Hilton Church a service of Evensong also led by Revd Vanessa.

 

The scripture passages we will use at these services are:

  • Lectionary choice                 John 4:26-42
  • Growing Good choice         1 Corinthians 9:19-22

The Diocesan Reflection for Lent 3 will be given by the Rt Revd Dr Flora Winfield, Bishop of Selby. Bishop Flora reflects on the [longer] Lectionary Gospel passage set for this Sunday (John 4:5-42). You will be able to find the Reflection at this link from about the Thursday before that Sunday.
